Avery woke me up at 6:00 AM this morning.
Took a little jab at me with his claw; I awoke confused and disoriented, not actually understanding why I’d woken up, then quickly fell back asleep.
At 6:30 AM, he woke me up again the same way. This time I looked quickly down at the foot of the bed where he usually sleeps, a bit alarmed and asked, “Avery? Are you okay?”
Obviously he was. The only reason he ever wakes me up at night is because I didn’t play with him enough the day prior. So he gives a little meep and then runs off the bed to emphasize his desire to play. I won’t ever give in to this behaviour and actually play with him. If I did, I know he’d be waking me up to play every night.
So I try to get back to bed.
7:00 – still haven’t fallen asleep. Get up to use the washroom; Avery gets excited and thinks I’m going to play with him. I hop back into bed and again try to sleep, but I’m a reasonably light sleeper and have problems falling asleep if I’m woken up, especially if I feel I might be woken up again. So I just can’t get to bed.
7:30 – Avery has moved and is trying to sleep on Thomas’ side of the bed now. I’ve woken Thomas up a couple of times already, but he bounces in and out of sleep like it’s nothing. So this time when I finally give up, I figure I’ll give it a rest and just go sit at my laptop before I wake Thomas up for good with my tossing and turning.
I sit on the floor, turn on my laptop, and start browsing. Avery almost immediately plops off the bed, jumps into my lap, and takes a nap.
Lovely. So he wakes me up multiple times only to fall back asleep in my lap.
Can’t hold a grudge, though. Not when he’s this stinkin’ cute.
What a suck.
