In the past couple days, Avery’s been stepping into his PetMate Sky Kennel to spend a few hours in here and there. This kennel is the one we used to take him from Canada to the U.K. for our cross-continental move about a month ago.
When we arrived at this flat after our flight, we propped the kennel up high on a little table in the corner of the room to keep it out of the way. It being in such a nice spot, I always thought Avery might enjoy spending some time in the cage, especially since he was so comfortable resting in it for the drive from London to Bournemouth. So we left the door to the kennel open/unlocked in case he ever was curious enough to go in and wanted to use it as a tree house of sorts.
At first, we’d find him sniffing from the outside of the kennel for a few minutes, so we’d open the unlocked door wide and he’d consider going in. The next time he did this, we put him in ourselves. He’d remain inside, sniffing about for a few minutes, then he’d come out. Nowadays, even though the door closes behind itself somewhat, he manages to open it himself, walks in, then has a good solid nap or two before coming out.
Yesterday he hung out in the kennel for about 3-4 hours, and today he’s been in for a good hour already.

What did you expect? The cat has a choice. Lock the cage behind him and see how quickly he dislikes it.
